Seating Randomizer

The tool lays out a grid of seats — row 1 is the front of the room, nearest the board — and shuffles your students into it while respecting the constraints you set.

1. List your students, one name per line.
2. Choose a grid size, or leave Auto-size on to let the tool pick rows and columns that fit the class.
3. Add constraints: Keep apart stops two students from sitting next to each other, Keep together seats a pair side by side, and Front row pins a student to row 1 — useful for students who need to be near the board.
4. Generate to shuffle; hit Reshuffle for a fresh arrangement any time.
5. Print the grid or save it as a PDF for your records.

Randomisation makes many attempts and keeps the arrangement that satisfies the most constraints. If a set of constraints cannot be fully met (for example, more front-row students than front-row seats), the tool keeps the closest fit and tells you which rules could not be honoured. Adjacency means directly left, right, above, or below a seat.
